IMMIGRATION OPTIONS

Join Your Family in Canada

Spouse or Common-Law Partner

If you are married to (or in a common-law relationship with) a Canadian citizen or permanent resident then they can Sponsor you to come to Canada. In some cases you can move to Canada on a visitor visa while you are being sponsored. Sponsorship of Spouses and Common-Law partners can be fast.

Where your relationship is a common-law one care must be taken to demonstrate that your relationship is "marriage-like" (providing evidence of joint finances and assets where possible) and that you meet the minimum period of cohabitation.

Parents and Other family Members

If you have relatives in Canada they may be able to Sponsor you to gain you Permanent Resident status or alternatively you may be eligible to apply through a Provincial Nominee Program.

Canadian citizens and permanent residents can sponsor dependent children, parents and in some cases grandchildren and grandparents to immigrate to Canada. In situations where there are no other living relatives that they can sponsor, Canadians are allowed to sponsor "any other relative".

If you don’t have family members in Canada that are eligible to sponsor you, some Provincial Nominee Programs provide for people with family members other than spouses, parents and children to immigrate to Canada. If you have brothers/sisters and aunts/uncles or cousins in certain Provinces you may be eligible by virtue of those family connections.
