Move to Canada to Take it Easy
Not everyone that comes to Canada is looking for a career move. For many people it’s an opportunity to take life more slowly. Although Canada abandoned the Retiree category a long time ago, there are a limited number of programs that don’t require you to have a job offer or start a full-time business and may be suitable for people hoping for early retirement or semi-retirement.
If you have a net worth of over $800,000 Canadian you may be interested in the Investor program. It allows people who meet the net worth requirement and have qualifying business experience to immigrate to Canada without having to be selected by a particular province or meet conditions after arrival. It requires you to make an investment of $400,000 which is returned to you after a certain period but without interest. A range of financing options is available through approved intermediaries.
If you are destined for Nova Scotia then the Provincial Nominee Program "Community Identified Stream" provides people under 55 years of age (subject to meeting other conditions) to immigrate without needing a job offer or a proposed business venture. It is especially suitable for people who have, or are developing, ties to a particular community. If you ever fancied buying and running a B&B other "lifestyle business" this program may be right for you.
If you have children or other relatives in Canada that are eligible to sponsor you but you are concerned about waiting many years for a sponsorship application to be processed, now might be the time to learn some new skills and come to Canada on a study permit. There are no age restrictions on who can study in Canada on a study permit.
