Federal Skilled Worker Class
To qualify as a Skilled Worker you must have at least 1 year of experience in a skilled occupation (this means at skill level 0, A or B according to HRSDC occupation classifications) and meet the required point score (currently 67 points). Points are awarded for such factors as age, education, experience, arranged employment and having previous work/study in Canada or family members in Canada.
To apply as a Skilled Worker you must also either have Arranged Employment in Canada, or have or have worked in one of the occupations listed in the Priority Occupations List below for at least 1 year in the previous 10 years.
Assessing your eligibility for the Skilled Worker Class can be complex. People often make mistakes about their point score when making their own calculations. It’s also important to note that when checking that your occupations qualifies, more importance is placed on the main duties you performed than on your job title.
