Healthcare in Canada
Canada’s healthcare system is one of the best in the world. Through a national health insurance scheme Canada provides free-of-charge healthcare for Canadian citizens, Permanent Residents and some Temporary Workers and Students (depending on the length of validity of their work/study permit). Although the free healthcare system does not cover everything (some dental/optical services and prescription drugs are "extra") the service that is provided free of charge is generally very good, well funded and without lengthy waiting lists compared to many other developed countries.
Healthcare varies slightly from Province to Province and coverage is provided by individual Provincial schemes. Some provinces have waiting periods before coverage commences for new permanent residents. For individual provincial healthcare information see:
